Northland, Auckland and Waiheke Island

The diverse region of Northland, Auckland and Waiheke Island produces some of New Zealand’s most famous Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet blends.

Although comprising less than 1% of New Zealand’s wine production, this large area is home to some of New Zealand’s biggest wine companies, as well as numerous high-quality boutique vineyards.

Auckland is one of New Zealand’s oldest wine regions, established in the early 1900s by passionate Croatian, Lebanese and English winemakers.

Auckland’s local sub-regions are united by volcanic, clay-rich soils, a temperate maritime climate and, proximity to New Zealand’s largest city.

Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf is home to stunning Syrah, Chardonnay and world-class Cabernet blends. West Auckland is renowned for its internationally recognised, elegant Chardonnay.

Northland’s subtropical climate produces tropical Chardonnays, rich Pinot Gris, spicy Syrah’s, Pinotage, Chambourcin and red blends.
