Gisborne Wine
Gisborne produces a diverse range of wine styles reflecting the different soil types and mesoclimates of the region.
Gisborne has a strong reputation for Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Semillon and Chenin Blanc along with Pinot Gris and Viognier. Red varieties include vibrant fruity Merlots and Malbec.
High sunshine hours and a warm climate (regularly recording the highest sunshine hours and temperatures in the country) see Gisborne’s grapes often the first to be harvested in New Zealand.
These regional characters help produce wines with flavours of melon, peach, grapefruit and passionfruit complimented by body and finesse, a firm structure for aging and a delicate floral expression to the aroma.
