Regions

New Zealand

New Zealand’s wine regions extend 1,600km (1,000 miles) from subtropical Northland (36° S) down to Central Otago (46° S) which is home to the world’s most southerly vineyards.

New Zealand’s vineyards benefit from the moderating effect of our maritime climate with long sunshine hours and nights cooled by sea breezes.

Most wine regions are found on the eastern coastlines of the North and South Islands, no further than 120km, or 80 miles from the ocean and in the rain shadow of mountain ranges, each with its own unique soils and climatic conditions.

Within these diverse regions, sub-regional characteristics produce wines that distinguished as being not just from a wine region, but from a sub-region and a place.

Australia

Australia ‘s 160,000 hectares of vineyards are home to 2500 wineries and over 6000 grape growers producing around 4% of the world’s wine production.

With some of the oldest vines in the world that date back to the 1850s, Australia is also the world’s fourth largest exporter by volume.

Most of the regions are located on or near the coast with a range of distinct climates and
soil types.

Australia’s wine offering is very diverse with over 100 varieties, the top five being; Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.
